How to search the Travis County criminal docket
Step 1: Open the official criminal docket search
The Travis County Criminal Docket Search covers current and future District and County Court criminal settings. The page states when its daily data was generated.
Step 2: Choose the most precise search method
Search by the arrested person's name, attorney name, court or judge, or case and cause number. A cause number avoids many same-name problems. Use the name exactly as it appears in the court or release papers when no cause number is available.
Step 3: Read the complete setting row
Check the cause number, date and time, court, floor, setting type, matter, assigned attorney, and whether the portal states that an appearance at the courthouse is required.
Step 4: Confirm it before the appearance date
The county instructs visitors to check the site the day before coming to the courthouse. If an attorney or the court gave different instructions, the docket page says to follow those instructions.
Why a recent DWI arrest may not appear yet
An arrest creates a booking record, but the prosecuting office still decides whether and what to file. Until a misdemeanor information or felony indictment is entered and assigned, the criminal docket may have no court setting to display. A missing result soon after arrest is not proof that the case was rejected or dismissed.
The County Clerk states that its court case data is updated every 24 hours and that newly filed redacted document images generally take about 72 hours to appear. The criminal docket search reports data valid as of 7 a.m. each morning. Those are different refresh points for different records.
Which clerk holds the criminal case
Class A and B misdemeanor cases
The Travis County Clerk maintains misdemeanor case data for the County Courts at Law. A filed misdemeanor DWI setting should identify its assigned county court and cause number in the docket record.
Felony cases
The Travis County District Clerk Criminal Division maintains adult felony records and supports the criminal district courts. A felony DWI case may therefore use the same docket search while the underlying case record belongs to the District Clerk.
Municipal or justice-court matters
A separate municipal or Justice of the Peace case may use its own court system. The County Clerk explains that its misdemeanor search does not search every other county, municipality, or Justice of the Peace record.
The first setting and later settings serve different purposes
Release paperwork may include an initial court date. Once the case is filed, later settings can address counsel, discovery, motions, negotiation, compliance, announcement, plea, or trial preparation. A case can have many settings, and the next docket entry is not necessarily a trial date.
A court can reset a matter, change whether a personal appearance is required, or issue instructions that do not appear on an old screenshot. The current docket, the court's notice, and counsel's instructions should be compared rather than relying on the first paper received at release.
Information to have before confirming a court date
Identity
Complete legal name, date of birth, and the spelling used in the booking and court records help distinguish similar names.
Case references
Cause number, court number, arresting agency, booking number, and any attorney information help connect a search result to the right case.
Current papers
Keep the bond, release paperwork, court notice, setting notice, and any emailed or written instruction. Record when and where a portal result was checked.
Confirm a changed or uncertain setting
The Travis County Criminal Courts page lists Court Administration at 512-854-9244 and the Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center at 509 West 11th Street, Austin. The County Clerk misdemeanor division lists 512-854-9188. The District Clerk Criminal Division lists 512-854-9420, option 3, for felony-record questions.
Use the current number on the official site and provide the cause number when possible. Do not assume an old docket printout, calendar entry, text message, or third-party reminder remains controlling. If a lawyer or the court has supplied a different instruction, resolve the difference directly before the scheduled appearance.

Can I search by cause number instead of name?
Yes. The official docket supports a case or cause-number search, as well as searches by person, attorney, and court.
Why does release paperwork show a date that is not online?
The case may not yet be filed or assigned, the public data may be between refreshes, or the court may have changed the setting. Confirm the current status with the court or counsel.
Is every docket setting a trial date?
No. Criminal cases commonly have multiple settings for different procedural purposes. The type and matter fields, court notice, and counsel's instructions provide the necessary context.
