How to use the official Travis County inmate search
Step 1: Gather identifying information
Start with the person's complete legal name and date of birth. A jail ID or booking number, if already known, helps distinguish people with similar names. Keep the approximate arrest time and arresting agency available for a follow-up call.
Step 2: Start from the current county resource page
The Travis County Clerk's current misdemeanor-resources page lists an official Inmate Search. Because the linked endpoint can be unavailable or display an expired screen, do not assume a third-party directory is an official substitute.
Step 3: Read the result as a status snapshot
If the county tool returns a record, treat it as a status snapshot, not a complete or continuously available record. Online availability and data can be interrupted, incomplete, or delayed, so verify a missing, changed, or important entry through TCSO, the court, the appropriate clerk, or counsel before relying on it.
Step 4: Confirm the next question with the right office
Jail location and custody status belong to TCSO. A personal bond interview belongs to Pretrial Services. A court date or filed case belongs to the criminal courts or the appropriate clerk. One office's record does not answer every question.
Central Booking and Del Valle are different facilities
The official TCSO facilities page lists both locations. A transfer between them does not by itself establish that bond was denied or that the case has changed.
Travis County Jail and Central Booking Facility
500 West 10th Street, Austin, Texas 78701. TCSO states that people arrested in Travis County are brought to Central Booking for the intake process.
Travis County Correctional Complex
3614 Bill Price Road, Del Valle, Texas 78617. This is the separate correctional complex used for jail housing. It is not the downtown Central Booking address.
The magistrate deadline is not a promised release time
Code of Criminal Procedure article 15.17 requires an arrested person to be brought before a magistrate without unnecessary delay, and no later than 48 hours after arrest. That appearance is often called magistration. The magistrate addresses warnings, probable cause, counsel, bail, and release conditions.
The 48-hour outside limit for the appearance is not a deadline for physical release. Identification, booking, the court's decision, bond paperwork, ordered monitoring, payment processing, and jail release steps can continue after the appearance. No public page can promise a specific release hour from the arrest time alone.
What can affect the path from booking to release
How a personal bond fits into release
A personal bond, often called a PR bond, permits release without sureties or other security when a magistrate orders it. Travis County Pretrial Services may interview a person in custody and give the court verified information or a recommendation, but Pretrial Services does not grant the bond and approval does not produce instant physical release.
The county's Pretrial Services overview explains the agency's role in interviews, assessments, supervision, and compliance monitoring. Conditions may include ignition interlock or another monitor. The signed order and current official instructions control in the individual case; no fee or deadline should be assumed from an expired county schedule.
Identity and booking
Fingerprinting, identity checks, warrants, medical screening, property processing, and entry of the arrest can affect when a complete custody record becomes available.
Bail decision
The magistrate decides the bail amount, form of bond, and conditions under current Texas law. A Pretrial Services interview or recommendation does not itself order release.
Conditions and equipment
A court may order ignition interlock, another alcohol monitor, travel limits, reporting, or other conditions. Some DWI-related charges trigger a statutory interlock condition, while other conditions depend on the order entered in that case.
Release processing
Even after a bond is posted or a personal bond is approved, the jail must receive, confirm, and process the release authority. A transfer between facilities can add another operational step.
Official contacts and documents to keep
TCSO's contact page lists General Jail Information at 512-854-9889 and Pretrial Services at 512-854-9381. Use the current official page to verify a number before calling. The TCSO booking page also states that release paperwork contains a court date, but that setting can later change and should be checked through the court.
Keep the property receipt, bond, release order, conditions, DIC forms, court setting, booking number, and any monitoring instructions. Those documents answer different questions and can be compared with the online inmate, warrant, and court records.
Protect personal information and avoid release scams
Use the official county pages and do not publish or send a Social Security number, bank routing number, or payment card information to a person who claims it is needed to update an inmate search. Travis County warns that Pretrial Services does not demand payment by gift card, cryptocurrency, wire transfer, MoneyPak, or courier.
A caller can spoof an official-looking number and create urgency around an arrest or release. End the call and independently use the number on the official agency website. A search result should be used to locate the right record, not as permission to disclose private information or send money to an unverified person.

Travis County inmate and release questions
Why is a recent arrest not showing in the inmate search?
The county endpoint may be unavailable, its data may be delayed or incomplete, the intake record may still be processing, the identifying information may differ, or custody status may have changed. Verify the record through TCSO or the appropriate official office rather than treating a missing online result as final.
Does a Del Valle location mean release is no longer possible?
No. The Del Valle correctional complex is a housing facility. The controlling questions are the bail and release orders, any conditions, and whether release processing has been completed.
Does the 48-hour rule mean release within 48 hours?
No. Article 15.17 sets the outside limit for the appearance before a magistrate, not a required time for release from jail.
